5-Page Essay on Abortion

5-Page Essay on Abortion 5-Page Essay on Abortion Abortion can be defined as the removal of a fetus from a pregnant female’s womb before the birth due date. Two main types of abortion commonly performed are the medical abortion and the surgical abortion. Both of these abortions require the pregnant female to be placed under medical care. Each has its own advantages and risks. A medical abortion is the kind that can be performed during the early weeks, up to the seventh week of pregnancy. It basically involves the female taking several medications that trigger the uterus to reject and expel the pregnancy tissues and the embryo. During a medical abortion, the female first takes a drug known as mifepristone, which is also commonly known as RU 486. This drug operates by making the lining of the uterus thin, therefore, making the cervix very soft. In some cases, the physician gives the female a drug known as methotrexate in the place of RU 486. This drug acts by stopping the pregnancy from progressing. The latter drug can also stop the growth of an ectopic pregnancy. If this kind of pregnancy is allowed to progress, it could rapture the uterus of the female, and therefore, threaten the life of the woman. Each one of these drugs can be administered orally or through the vagina. Two days after the administration of the drug, the female begins experiencing strong contractions within the uterus which makes her feel like she is having strong cramps. Given the many side effects of this drug, it is recommended that the female consult a doctor so the doctor can determine if the female can safely complete the abortion procedure. A surgical abortion, on the other hand, entails dilating the cervix of the female and then removing the contents of the uterus. The cervix area of a female is the narrow lower section of the uterus that joins the vaginal canal. The cervix has a small pinhole opening through which a female’s menstrual fluid flows and where sperm can travel in to fertilize the ova. A doctor who is performing a surgical abortion must first dilate the cervix to create enough space to allow the instruments to pass through into the uterus. Surgical abortions are performed at about six to seven months after the female becomes pregnant. There are several methods in performing a surgical abortion, but all abortions must be performed in a doctor’s office or clinic. Even though the later kinds of abortion are referred to as surgical abortions, women who undergo surgical abortions are not put under general anesthesia, which poses extra risks to the female. Essay writing tips: The issues involving abortions are considerable and complex; therefore, they cannot be comprehensively explored in a five-page essay. For that reason, when asked to compose a five-page essay on abortion, it is better to select a few main points concerning abortion and then explore those points in the essay. In this paper, the main ideas selected are the two types of abortions commonly performed on females who wish to terminate their pregnancies. After defining each type of abortion, the body paragraph offers a brief explanation of how each procedure is performed. Coveys Habits essays

Covey's Habits essays Proactive. Covey tells us how we should be taking more initiative and control of our lives. We are the only ones that have control over our lives. Covey uses the story of Victor Frankl to explain the total control we have to shape our own thoughts and feelings. Victor was a Jew held in a German death camp during the second World War. Victor realized that even though the Germans had control of the environment that he was in and the ability to kill him at anytime, he could still have control of his thoughts and feelings. Victor could project himself into other places that he found comforting. By doing this, he would almost forget about where he was. His attitude changed and helped encourage hundreds of other people around him. Highly effective people understand and use this ability that everyone possesses. We need to take control of our selves and realize that we can shape our thoughts. By being proactive we are not as prone to have our environment shape the way we think or feel. Non-p roactive people tend to be emotional butterflies: when people treat them well, they feel well; when people dont, they become defensive or protective . . . allowing the weaknesses of people to control them. People who are proactive take more initiative then their counterparts do. In order to be a more effective person, you must first have initiative. You take control over yourself. You dont let people walk over you, creating benefit for themselves and destruction for you. Being proactive seems like one of the most important and fundamental attitudes one can have. It is the corner stone to other important aspects of a person. This is a theory I plan on using in my life. As a Masters student, and a soon to be counselor, control over your outlook can make or break you. For myself, I am working 30 hours a week, married, and trying to keep my grades the best they can be. I find it easy to feel overwhelmed with all these things. Having the...

Human Beings are Causing Global Warming Research Paper

Human Beings are Causing Global Warming - Research Paper Example According to the research findings, it can, therefore, be said that the majority of researchers have concluded that the earth is undergoing major climatic changes. Further, they also agree that carbon dioxide levels are increasing gradually. It is an evident form of satellite images that ice caps are melting quickly, the sea levels are rising in addition to severe weather conditions such as extreme temperatures, floods, drought, etc. This has led to increased water shortages, frequent hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons. It is without a doubt that deserts will expand and the world will eventually experience food shortages and this is why human activities have to be regulated. Few scientists claim that the earth is going on well but for the case of dealing with global warming, we should advocate for the implementation of the precautionary principle which states that â€Å"†¦if any potential consequences of any action are irreversible or severe, in the absence of full scientific c ertainty the burden of proof is blamed on those who advocate taking the action†¦Ã¢â‚¬ . The earth has undergone various climatic cycles during its history. The scary part is that human beings are causing unbelievable climatic changes at an abnormal rate. The combustion of fossil fuels produces greenhouse gases at a high life-threatening rate thus resulting in global warming. Global Warming, Climate Change, Greenhouse Effect†¦. All are happening just now and this is as a consequence of human activities. After sunrays reach the earth some heat is absorbed by earth while the rest is refracted back to the atmosphere at the longer wavelength. These wavelengths are absorbed by greenhouse gases in the atmosphere before they disappear into space. The absorption of these wavelengths increases the atmosphere temperature.

Assess Your Own Progress As A Student English Language Essay

Assess Your Own Progress As A Student English Language Essay The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to take a step back from your studies and to assess your own progress as a student. It is directly related to the learning outcome that concerns taking responsibility for your own learning while responding reflectively to tutor feedback. As with Assignment 02, this assignment aims to develop your awareness of the way in which you study and write. It aims to help you to think through your work on the course as a whole, at the moment at which you start to think about what to study next. You should begin by looking back over your previous assignments and your tutors comments on these assignments. (If you do not receive Assignment 06 back in time to take account of it in writing this assignment, there is no need to be concerned: just focus on Assignments 01 to 05.) You should then write a critical review of up to 750 words, examining the way in which you study and write your assignments. For example, you might consider how your skills in reading and taking notes or in planning and writing your essays have developed through the course. How you structure your review is up to you, but in the course of it, you should do the following five things: Identify one or more ways in which you have made progress as a student since starting The Arts Past and Present. (For example, you might describe a skill that you have developed, or a difficulty in studying that you have resolved.) Identify one or more ways in which your approach to study or your study skills could be improved. For at least one of these, identify some different sources of help. Identify one or more strengths that you have as a student. Consider which subject(s) you have most enjoyed studying, and which subject(s) you have got the best marks for. Has the experience of studying the course modified what you thought you would be interested in before you started the course? Do you now have a clearer sense of what youd like to study next? You should support what you say with specific examples taken from your experiences of working through the course materials and writing assignments. You may wish to refer to one or more of your tutors comments on your assignments. Answer: I think my assessor has been fair and just all through my course and her help has been invaluable in my progression. Her guidance and advice as well as support shaped my studies and gave me a solid foundation to work from. She has helped me to achieve so much through the last year without her I would not have come this far and achieved the levels I have. When I look back to my tmas I can see through the assessors comments that I had made some careless mistakes. E.g. forgetting to use capital letters and forgetting set dictionary on UK English, these I have tried to fix and have worked hard to improve on this. My referencing was nonexistent when I started this course and I needed so much work for me to improve, but thanks to my assessors comments I gained a better understanding what references I can and cannot use e.g. discussion groups and have changed the referencing in my essays to more suitable references. In addition, I needed to work on my paragraphs as I had a tendency to use too short a paragraphs. This can be seen in the extract I have selected below from my assessors comments. You`ve made many of these point in your essay, but because you haven`t drawn them together in proper paragraphs, the thrust of your argument is rather dissipated.  Ã‚  Ã‚  I would advise that for future assignments you write the essay, and then look at short paragraphs (if you have any) and see whether they need to stand alone or whether they can tidily be combined with another short paragraph to create a new, longer one.  Ã‚  But don`t go to the opposite extreme and have paragraphs which go on for pages, which is my particular fault and one which my tutors used to complain about!  Ã‚  You also need to watch the format for references and Bibliography, as I`ve indicated on your script. This is a promising beginning to the course.  Ã‚  You have clearly understood what the questions required you to do, and have made some good points.  Ã‚  You just need to arrange your material so as to make the best use of it Myra Cross assessor comments PT3e Tma 01 As you can gather from the assessors comments my work, the paragraphs were so short. However, through learning essay planning I soon learnt how to structure each paragraph to include the correct information needed and they started to form proper paragraphs and became less like bullet points. In addition, one of my other greatest strengths was the fact I could find the information I needed but my greatest flaw was I could not justify the key points. Therefore, I had to spend a lot of time trying to learn how to justify my key points better and I have to some extent rectified this as can be seen by my rising grades. I have made use of information that is included in the assessors comments on each tma to analyse what I have been doing wrong and used this information to help plan and improve on each subsequent tma. As to my essay plans they still needs work so I decided on doing a 10 point after this course in writing fiction this should give me more practice before next 60 point course and hopefully by the time I do the next 60 point course I should have rectified this problem. After reviewing tma06 I Have found a major area I need to concentrate on In the past essays I have cut material to get down to the word limit. I have found this is causing my essays not to read or flow correctly this may work for smaller essays but for larger it effects my grades. I am trying in the future to put rules in place that if I exceeded my word limits by large amount instead of cut and past exercise I rework my plan and rewrite essay to the new plan hoping this resolves this flaw. I have enjoyed this course so much when I started the course it was because I wanted to learn structure and improve my writing skills and AA100 was compulsory course for degree I wanted. Now I am nearly finished I look back and realise I have awakened a love in both arts and history I hope I can use these new loves in my books. In addition, I want to move into the study of the history the goal for my masters is to combine my love of books with my love of history and to research or study history of writing throughout the ages.

Chick-n-Gravy Dinner Line Essay

I. Executive summary Ann, the assistant manager, is going to investigate customers’ complaints of the supermarket regarding the frozen dinner. The majority of complaints centered on five defects: under-filled packages, a missing label, spills/mixed items, unacceptable taste, and improperly sealed packages. She collected data from inspecting approximately 800 frozen dinners and will analyze this information. II. Problem There are two problems 1. How will the defects be measured and what quality tools will be used? 2. What should Ana recommend to the manager after knowing the results? III. Objectives To determine the most numbered defect and the most defective product line with the use of quality tools. To address the solution to the manager. IV. SWOT Strengths Weaknesses Quickly handling customers’ complaints and analyze the problem. Frozen dinner is produced to give the customers quicker healthy meal for their busy life. Easy to focus the main problems in the production area. Many defective products have reached customers, affect to reputation Wasting resources such as time, money to produce a product not as expected Problems were found only from the customers, has no information causes the problem from the manufactory, machines, facilities†¦ Opportunities Threats Gain experienced the problem and improve it New processing method for higher quality Product Engineers or Quality department will be trained for better performance. Better planning and proper scheduling. Getting more customer’s satisfaction Other competitors would take advantages of that defect and introduce their products with higher quality. The company might need to eliminate that product and produce a new product if the customers don’t satisfy anymore V. Analyzing Data can be organized in Histograms (totals, morning/afternoon, and Line #1/Line #2) Defect The Pareto Chart There are 69 defects were found 22 occurrences unacceptable taste: the most frequent problem. The next is missing item with 18, and then spill/mixed, with 14 occurrences. The 14 of the 22 unacceptable taste were accounted for by Line #1 in the morning, and the remainder were Line #2, also in the morning. Line #1 exhibited a similar morning problem: all 11 occurrences were in the morning. Line #2 had all 7 of its occurrences in the afternoon. 10 of 14 occurrences of spill/mixed defects occurred in the afternoon. In the improper seal category, 10 out of 11 occurrences were for Line #2. VI. Recommendation The Pareto Chart shown Unacceptable Taste has the most number of defects. Ann should give the priority to investigate what problem caused Unacceptable Taste. These should be on the Product Engineers or Quality Control Center which must be put in investigation. For a proper inspection must be done every now and then. The Scatter Diagram above shows there is no relationship between the time the defects were observed and the number of defects. However, the occurrences were mostly in the morning with 42 occurrences (61%), so Ann also should to find out what might be causing taste problems in the morning on both lines. Step by step, after successfully reducing the Unacceptable Taste defect the Missing Item defect can be investigated. After the Missing Item defect is reduced, the Spill/Mixed defect can be investigated. And so on until all the 5 defects are reduced or completely removed. The company will need to train their employee overtime or hire new skilled employees. A Quality Control Engineer must be put in the position. Consider to upgrade the new machine to get higher quality of the product. Conduct another test to detect the source of the problem, the workers, equipment’s/machines or the facilities.

Flanking in a Price War essays

Flanking in a Price War essays The article Flanking in a Price War discusses a pricing experiment that was conducted in the Quebec grocery industry. The experiment was initiated by a grocery chain in Quebec that was concerned about a possible price war between the major players in the market. Given in the article is a background of the Quebec grocery industry and its typical pricing strategies and marketing theory. It also discusses the different ways to look at pricing tactics other than the traditional price slashing that had happened before. The experiment looks at other ways to categorize products that may react differently to pricing changes. The Bayesian theory of using the knowledge of prior events to predict future events in implemented in executing the results of the experiment The article first focuses on the Steinberg grocery chain. In the late 80s Steinberg needed to increase their market share. It was expected that they would lower their prices and start a price war like they have in the past. IGA- Boni, one of the four major players in the Quebec grocery industry, was concerned over this possibility as they would need to react to any price changes to keep their market share, but doing so would cause large profit losses. The president of IGA-Boni called upon university staff in both Canada and the United States to come up with an alternative game plan. They came up with the following experiment. Previous to this experiment, it was generally thought that price inversely affects quantity sold. A very important proposal in this experiment suggests that there are different price strategies for different types of products. Specifically in this case, stock up and non-stock up goods. Stock up goods are usually non-perishables items; i.e. canned goods, soap or goods that come in large convenient sizes. The non-stock up goods would be the perishable goods like fresh vegetables or milk and space limited items li...

Uses of the private browsing feature offered by major internet Essay

Uses of the private browsing feature offered by major internet browsers - Essay Example As such, other users of the same computer will not be able to track one’s communication and the pages on social sites that they have visited. Closely related to this point is that people turn on the feature when accessing sites that they do not wish their partners or family members to view, or when performing research on a subject that they consider private. For example, people accessing pornographic sites or sites that feature adult products turn on the feature to hide their tracks (lifehacker, 2012). The feature is also useful at home when planning surprises and buying gifts online (Lienjdlien, 2010). The target of the surprise is not able to detect what is in store for them as no trace of sites visited by a person is left behind. At home, the private browsing feature is also used when visiting or opening pages that are potentially dangerous or intrusive according to Lienjdlien (2010). For example, the feature may be turned on to filter out adverts or sites that may contain viruses. At work, the private browsing feature acts as a security measure against possible threats when performing online transactions (Lienjdlien, 2010). As a security measure against online threats when performing transactions, the feature is also applicable at the home. The feature is also used when one has to log onto a private account from a computer that is publicly accessed. The feature in this case prevents other persons from gaining access to private accounts once an individual has logged off from them. The feature is also important when one needs to hide their tracks and keep the computer’s browser free of information that is not relevant (Lienjdlien, 2010). Web developers enter the private mode with an aim of testing websites’ session and cookie related aspects (lifehacker, 2012). At work, one may use the private browsing feature to manage multiple accounts simultaneously on a single website. For example, if one has several gmail accounts

The Introduction to Probability Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

The Introduction to Probability - Essay Example The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s report of a decline in mortality rate, from â€Å"747.0 deaths per 100000 populations in 2010 to 740.6 deaths per 100000 populations,† is an example of probability, a comparative probability. The first section of the compound probability means that for every 100000 people in the target society, 747 died and the statement means that in the year 2010, a member of the society had a probability of dying of 0.00747. The second part of the compound probability shows that for every 100000 people in the population, 740 died in the year 2011 with the implication that each person had a probability of 0.00741 of dying in the year 2011. The compound probability, however, offers a basis for comparing the  probability of death in the society and indicates that people had a lower likelihood of dying in the year 2011 as compared to their probability of dying in the year 2010. This offers a basis for understanding factors affecting deat h rates towards improving people’s welfare and increasing life expectancy by understanding significant factors that changed between the two years. The probability example is applicable to stakeholders to health care for determining initiatives for healthy living (Hoyert and Xu, 2012). Probability defines the likelihood of an occurrence and is expressed as a comparative of a baseline. It is normally expressed as a percentage or as a fraction but can take assume different reference bases.
